The Mercury
" The Mercury bag is fantastic - very well thought out - prior to buying it I had been looking for a well fitting but lightweight hydration backpack since I started running 2 years ago but without success. I have tried a number of others which either fastened round the waist - which I can't stand when I'm running - or if they had just shoulder straps couldn't get them tight enough. The Mercury bag is stable and secure and has plenty of room for ipod and gels as well so is perfect. I have taken it on 10 mile long runs so far and found it very comfortable. I am about to take it to Lanzarote for a couple of weeks where I will run in the hills for up to 13 miles a day training for a half marathon - its 1.5l capacity will be ideal for this as there aren't many places to top up supplies. History:
We launched the first collection of bags to the public at the Vitality show in March 2010 where we were thrilled to find that women really liked our ideas to make bags that were well organised inside, un-fussy and sleek on the outside and comfortable to carry or wear.
The idea for workplay bags came from our founder and Designer Guy Mathiot’s years of experience of designing Sports Fashion Clothing and bags for major brands like Puma, Asics and Berghaus.
Back in the 1990’s he found that most sports brands thought that making a "woman’s sports bag" just meant making it in pink with a few ditsy 'fashion details'.
He instead thought that girls are more practical than men – more discerning and know when they see a bag that works well! So he set out to make practical & stylish bags that are for work, sport, fitness and travel and for all the other things in life girls do.
Guy took his ideas to a number of retailers like Debenhams and brands like USAPro before the women’s fitness boom that we have seen in recent years really took off, but although they all liked the designs he could not find a way to get them to take up his ideas as a commercial proposition.
Eventually though, growing retailers like sweatyBetty took up his ideas and invited him to supply them with his bag styles – which sold so well that Guy eventually decided to take the plunge and launch the workplay collection. There are not many specialist women’s fitness retailers to sell to so we decided to launch the bags direct to the public in the first phase as an e-tail company.
The collection you see here has been crafted to be ergonomically comfortable to carry or wear, 'super organised' inside, pleasing to use, stylish, secure and packed with well thought out practical features.
We also try to keep the prices as reasonable as possible, while making a quality product - because we believe that good quality design should be within the reach of everyone.
Future:
Our plans are to develop a wider collection of bags for all the things a woman would want from fitness to nurture to pamper to play. We will be launching bags for Work life, Walking, Running, Yoga, Swim and Motherhood - as well as constantly refining our classic styles.

We cannot know everything – but we learn every day and are really interested in hearing what kinds of bag we could make for you that would give you and those you care for pleasure, as well as make your life easier.
